Dubai families will not face any increase in private school tuition fees for the 2026–27 academic year, as the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has announced a full fee freeze across the emirate.
The decision has been welcomed by parents already dealing with rising living costs, offering some financial relief ahead of the new school year starting in September.
However, education experts and school leaders have warned that despite the freeze, families still need to carefully review other possible education-related expenses and payment terms.
According to KHDA, the freeze is part of its broader effort to maintain stability in the private education sector and support families during ongoing economic pressure.
Under normal circumstances, school fees in Dubai are adjusted based on the Education Cost Index (ECI) and school inspection ratings. Schools with higher ratings can typically increase fees, while lower-rated schools face restrictions. However, this year’s freeze overrides all such adjustments.
Authorities also noted that full school inspections were limited during the 2024–25 and 2025–26 academic years, with only targeted quality checks conducted in some cases.
Alongside the fee freeze, Dubai has introduced a wider Dh1.5 billion support package aimed at easing financial pressure on schools and families. The package includes measures such as rent relief for education providers, deferred licence fees, and flexible payment arrangements.
Despite the tuition freeze, parents are still being advised to carefully check additional costs such as registration fees, transport charges, uniforms, extracurricular activities, devices, and school trips, which may still vary between institutions.
Schools across the UAE are also expanding instalment-based payment options through fintech platforms, giving parents more flexibility in managing tuition payments. However, experts warn that while such systems ease short-term pressure, they require careful financial discipline to avoid missed payments or extra charges.
School leaders have largely welcomed the announcement, describing it as a stabilising move that supports both families and the education sector during uncertain economic conditions.
Some institutions also confirmed they will maintain existing discounted fee structures or flexible payment plans to further support parents.
Parents, meanwhile, say the freeze brings relief but stress that school expenses remain a major part of household budgeting, especially for larger families or those facing reduced income.
Education experts have also urged families to plan ahead, noting that despite the absence of fee increases, education costs remain significant when all associated expenses are considered.
Refund policies were also highlighted, with schools typically applying deductions depending on when a student withdraws from enrolment, making it important for parents to understand terms before committing.
Overall, while the KHDA fee freeze offers short-term relief, both schools and families agree that careful financial planning remains essential in navigating the wider cost of education in Dubai.
