The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has actively engaged in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York, where it presented its progress in achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and participated in important discussions.
Led by a high-ranking government delegation, including representatives from various entities such as the General Secretariat of the National Committee on SDGs, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the UAE delegation showcased its initiatives and programs aimed at accelerating sustainable development.
During the forum, which runs from July 10th to July 19th, the delegation will hold dialogues and collaborations with international organizations, NGOs, researchers, academia, and the youth to explore effective approaches for achieving the SDGs and fostering knowledge exchange and partnerships.
Abdullah Nasser Lootah, Vice-Chairman of the National Committee on SDGs, emphasized the UAE’s commitment to sharing its sustainable development model with the world and highlighted the importance of partnerships in strengthening international cooperation for sustainable development.
The UAE delegation participated in the opening session and general meeting of the High-Level Political Forum, which gathered all participating delegations on the first day. Dr. Nawal Al Hosany, Permanent Representative of the UAE to IRENA, stressed the significant role of renewable energy in driving sustainable development and energy systems transformation.
Mohamed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director-General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to promoting sustainable development globally through mobilizing financial resources, fostering innovation, and driving transformative change.
Dr. Abdulkareem Sultan Al Olama, CEO of MBRGI, highlighted the organization’s alignment with the SDGs and its efforts in providing aid to underprivileged communities worldwide. Dr. Waleed Al Ali, Advisor at MBRGI, emphasized the importance of supporting international efforts for quality education and empowering communities.
The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, established in 2012, serves as a platform for the United Nations to discuss sustainable development and monitor the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. This year’s forum focuses on accelerating the recovery from COVID-19 and fully implementing the SDGs, with a deep dive into specific goals, including clean water and sanitation, quality education, and partnerships for the goals.
