Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan Commends Efforts to Promote Date Palm Cultivation and Agricultural Innovation

Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, the Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, lauded the diligent efforts of the Award’s General Secretariat in realizing the UAE’s leadership vision to disseminate specialized scientific knowledge. This vision aims to develop the date palm cultivation and agricultural innovation sectors, aligning with strategic objectives and leveraging national and regional experiences to foster date palm cultivation and production following international best practices.

Dr. Abdelouahhab Zaid, the Secretary-General of the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, made these remarks on the occasion of the release of two new scientific books. The first book, titled “Dates Manufacturing,” authored by Prof. Samir Al-Shaker, an international expert in date production and manufacturing, delves into economic and technical feasibility studies for date factory establishment, technical project study stages, and building design criteria. It also covers facility-related considerations and preparation phases.

The second book, “Organic Agriculture,” authored by Prof. Dr. Magdy Mohamed Kenawy, Senior Consultant of Plant Protection, holds significant value as it explores the history, principles, and objectives of organic agriculture. It distinguishes traditional agricultural systems from organic agriculture, outlines the transition process between them, highlights the environmental benefits of organic agriculture, and details the regulations and standards governing this approach. Additionally, the book covers organic agriculture strategies for fertilization, pest control, and weed management.
