Preparations for the upcoming 33rd session of “Sharjah Theater Days” are in full swing under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.
The Supreme Committee for the theatrical demonstration, organized by the Department of Culture, convened for its fourth meeting at the Palace of Culture on Friday evening. Chaired by Ahmed Bourahima, director of Al-Ayyam, the committee members, including Ismail Abdullah, Muhammad Jamal, and Abdullah Rashid, were in attendance.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed the report presented by the “Viewing and Classification” committee, consisting of Khalifa Al-Takhlufa (UAE), Ghannam Ghannam (Jordan), and Khaled Raslan (Egypt). The report included the approval of show times and locations.
Discussion also revolved around the preparations for the opening ceremony, scheduled for the evening of March 2nd at the Culture Palace in Sharjah. The ceremony will feature the presentation of the winning show from the “Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi Award for Best Arab Theatrical Work” in its eleventh edition. The winning show, titled “Taknaza.. The Story of Touda,” is a Moroccan production written by Tariq Al-Rabh, Ismail Al-Orabi, and Amin Nasour, directed by Amin Nasour, and performed by the Moroccan Fawanes troupe. This show secured victory at the Arab Theater Festival held in Baghdad during January as part of the 14th edition.
The “Viewing and Classification” Committee, during its sessions from February 20 to 22, watched 12 shows and selected seven to compete for awards at the 33rd session of Sharjah Theater Days. The chosen performances include productions from various theater troupes, such as the Dibba Society for Culture, Arts, and Theater, the Ras Al Khaimah Theater Troupe, the Dibba Al-Hisn Society for Culture, Heritage, and Theater, the Sharjah Modern Theater Troupe, the Dubai National Theater Troupe, the Khor Fakkan Arts Theater Troupe, and the Sharjah National Theater troupe.
Additionally, two shows from the Kalba Folk Arts and Theater Society and the Fujairah Theater Band were selected to be presented on the sidelines of Al-Ayyam. Moreover, the 33rd session will feature two performances from the tenth session of the Kalba Short Play Festival, including “The Chairs” by director Hamid Muhammad Abdullah and “The Last Choice” by director Abdullah Muhammad Abdullah Al Ali, winners of the Best Show and Best Direction awards, respectively.
