Dubai – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to unveil a new entry and exit point to Al Warqa directly from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road in early June 2025, in a move aimed at dramatically improving traffic flow and accessibility for residents of the neighbourhood.
The new infrastructure is expected to significantly boost capacity, accommodating up to 5,000 vehicles per hour. Commuters will see travel times reduced by an impressive 80%, slashing the journey from 20 minutes to just 3.5 minutes. In addition, the project will shorten the travel distance from 5.7 km to 1.5 km, further enhancing convenience.
The initiative forms part of a broader internal road development programme in Al Warqa, covering approximately 8 km of improvements. Recent upgrades to Street 13 in Al Warqa 1, for instance, are already delivering benefits to local residents and schoolgoers, reflecting RTA’s focus on community-centric infrastructure.
In a statement, the authority underscored its commitment to developing an integrated network of roads, lighting, and stormwater drainage systems to meet the demands of Dubai’s urban expansion and growing population. These efforts are aligned with the emirate’s vision of becoming a smart, sustainable, and resident-friendly city.
RTA’s development agenda for Al Warqa extends beyond basic roadworks. Ongoing enhancements in Al Warqa 3 and 4 include the paving of roads, construction of pedestrian walkways and pavements, parking spaces, and the rollout of more than 23 km of new cycling tracks. These additions are designed to connect seamlessly with neighbouring paths, promoting cycling as a practical and eco-friendly mode of transport.
A major component of the upcoming works in Al Warqa 1 involves converting existing roundabouts into smart, signalised intersections. This upgrade, expected to be completed by the end of 2025, is forecast to improve traffic efficiency by up to 30%.
Targeted traffic improvements have also been executed in school zones. Notably, near the School of Research Science and GEMS Royal Dubai School, RTA has introduced 150 new parking bays and streamlined access points, reducing congestion and delays by 35% to 50%.
Further enhancements were made in support of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment’s 136-villa project in Al Warqa 4. Works included pedestrian walkways, vehicle access routes, and a fully integrated lighting system, complemented by a 7.4 km cycling track to support first-and-last-mile mobility.
In a bid to ensure that community feedback drives decision-making, the RTA recently hosted an interactive session with Al Warqa residents. This engagement provided a forum for locals to voice their concerns and suggestions, which were then incorporated into ongoing and future developments.
The authority said the public feedback played a crucial role in shaping these tangible infrastructure improvements, further underscoring RTA’s responsiveness to resident needs and its dedication to enhancing urban living standards in Dubai.
