Nearly 27,000 Boxes of Restricted Eye Drop Medication Seized by Dubai Customs

Dubai Customs has seized nearly 27,000 boxes of a restricted eye drop medication over the past two years. The medication, classified as a controlled substance in the UAE, is prohibited for sale or use without a medical prescription. A total of 26,766 boxes were confiscated across 62 separate operations, with the substance known to have narcotic properties when misused.

The UAE’s strict policy on narcotics, reinforced by Federal Decree-Law No. (30) of 2021, prohibits the import, export, production, possession, and use of controlled substances without proper regulatory oversight.

Khalid Ahmed Yousef, Director of Passenger Operations at Dubai Customs, highlighted the authority’s ongoing efforts to combat narcotics smuggling, including recent cases involving marijuana concealed in vacuum-sealed bags. He reaffirmed Dubai Customs’ commitment to improving inspection processes through advanced technologies, smart customs services, and enhanced training for inspectors to combat illegal drug activities effectively.
