Fuel Price Adjustment for August 2025: UAE Drivers Face Modest Hike as Oil Markets Fluctuate

Motorists across the UAE will see slightly higher fuel prices in August 2025, following the latest monthly revision by the UAE Fuel Price Committee. The new rates, effective from August 1, reflect modest increases across petrol and diesel categories, in line with recent movements in global oil markets.

The pricing update, announced on Tuesday evening, places Super 98 petrol at AED 3.20 per litre, up from AED 3.12 in July. Special 95 climbs to AED 3.08, while E-Plus 91 rises to AED 3.01. Diesel will cost AED 3.14, a slight increase from last month’s AED 3.09.

Global Oil Trends Drive Local Impact

The adjustment comes as Brent crude hovers around $84 per barrel, with analysts citing ongoing OPEC+ production limits, Middle East tensions, and strong summer demand as contributing factors to the uptick.

“While the increase is not dramatic, it reflects ongoing pressure in energy markets and seasonal demand patterns,” said Rania Al Mazrouei, an energy policy researcher at the Gulf Energy Observatory. “The UAE’s transparent pricing model ensures consumers are aligned with global pricing realities.”

Consumer Response: Tightening Travel Budgets

The modest price hikes are expected to ripple through daily life for commuters and businesses. Several UAE residents say they’re already adjusting driving habits and budgeting more carefully amid sustained cost-of-living pressures.

“It may seem like a small change, but for frequent drivers like me, it adds up,” said Mohammed Ali, a Dubai-based taxi driver. “We feel every fil at the pump.”

The delivery and ride-hailing sectors are also likely to absorb some of the burden, with operators either tightening margins or passing on partial costs to consumers through fare adjustments.

Sustainable Options Gain Traction

The recurring monthly fluctuations are accelerating interest in electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid options, particularly in cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, where infrastructure for green mobility is rapidly expanding.

Government initiatives to promote fuel efficiency and sustainability, such as EV incentives and expanded public transport networks, are gaining relevance amid these monthly fuel revisions.

UAE’s Fuel Pricing Policy: A Decade of Transparency

Since deregulating fuel prices in 2015, the UAE has aligned local rates with global markets, reviewing and adjusting them monthly. This system, experts argue, boosts transparency, discourages overconsumption, and reflects the UAE’s role as both an oil producer and an advocate for sustainable energy reform.

Despite this month’s increase, fuel prices in the UAE remain among the most affordable in the GCC, partly due to low tax structures and efficient supply logistics.
