Emirates News Agency (WAM) Delegation Holds Meetings with Japanese Media Leaders to Strengthen Media Cooperation

A delegation from Emirates News Agency (WAM), led by Mohammed Jalal Al Rayssi, Director-General of WAM, visited Japan and engaged in discussions with several Japanese media leaders and officials to foster enhanced news sharing and media cooperation.

The primary objective of the WAM delegation’s visit was to build robust bilateral partnerships with media organizations from around the world. During their stay in Japan, the delegation met with leaders and representatives from various media outlets to explore opportunities for mutual cooperation.

The delegation toured prominent locations in Japan, including Keio University in Minato, Tokyo, as well as Mainichi Shimbun and Kyodo News. Visits were also made to the Asahi Shimbun newspaper and several media-related institutions, such as the University of Tokyo, Fuji Television, Abema TV, TBS, Riken, and the National Press Club.

The meetings with media officials and institutions aimed to strengthen cooperation in various fields, facilitate the exchange of experiences and media products, and promote more media, cultural, and intellectual openness between the UAE and Japan.

During the visit, Al Rayssi highlighted the successful outcomes of the previous edition of the Global Media Congress and invited Japanese journalists to participate in the upcoming second edition of the event, scheduled to take place in November. The Global Media Congress aims to facilitate international news exchange, share knowledge, address media challenges, propose solutions, and showcase innovations to advance the media industry.

The discussions also addressed the role of the media in addressing global challenges, including the effects of climate change, especially as the UAE prepares to host COP28 in November at Expo 2020 Dubai. Additionally, the importance of promoting values ​​such as tolerance, moderation, coexistence, and respect for others to contribute to global peace and stability was emphasized.

Al Rayssi expressed WAM’s aspiration to strengthen ties with Japanese media institutions, acknowledging their remarkable abilities and contributions to serving Japan and the international community.

The invitation extended to Japanese media officials to join the second Global Media Congress was warmly received, with praise for the achievements of the event’s first edition in advancing the media industry. Japanese media representatives expressed their willingness to collaborate with WAM to enhance media exchange between the UAE and Japan, benefitting both countries and their friendly peoples. They affirmed the key role of the media in promoting international understanding and achieving progress.
