Dubai is set to introduce flying taxis that will initially operate between airports, resorts, and key business districts before expanding to wider city routes, according to Anthony Khoury, UAE General Manager of Joby Aviation.
Early adoption is expected to come mainly from tourists and business travelers, with operations centered around “vertiports” — specialized takeoff and landing hubs. Key locations include Dubai International Airport (DXB), Dubai Mall, Atlantis The Royal hotel on Palm Jumeirah, and the American University of Dubai. Khoury noted that the DXB facility is already 70–80% complete.
The prototype aircraft for Dubai is nearly finished, with manufacturing and shipment from the United States scheduled in the coming months.
As the eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) market emerges, observers are watching how pricing and luggage weight restrictions will influence early adoption among potential passengers.
Dubai’s flying taxis mark a significant step toward urban air mobility in the region, offering a futuristic alternative to traditional ground transport for high-demand routes.
