Dubai Municipality has launched the Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030, a Dh4 billion strategic plan aimed at building a balanced, sustainable, and human-centred urban ecosystem across the emirate.
The roadmap was unveiled during the World Governments Summit 2026 and reviewed by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, alongside senior UAE leaders and government officials.
The initiative forms part of Dubai’s long-term vision to position nature as a core pillar of urban development, integrating parks, beaches, waterfronts, biodiversity conservation, afforestation, agriculture, and sustainable infrastructure into daily city life.
According to Dubai Municipality, the roadmap targets the planting of approximately 1.5 million trees over the next five years, alongside the implementation of more than 45 landscaping and beautification projects. It also предусматривает the development of 120 new parks covering nearly 3 million square metres, and the creation of 200 sports and recreational spaces connected through green networks.
The plan also places strong emphasis on coastal development. More than 15 major projects will revitalise Dubai’s coastlines, with three new beach destinations to be introduced annually. Public beach facilities and services are expected to increase by 400%, while public beach capacity will expand by 150%. In addition, beachfront walking, jogging and cycling tracks will be extended by 285%.
The roadmap aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan and the Public Parks and Greenery Strategy, redefining beaches and green spaces as active urban infrastructure rather than passive recreational areas.
Director General of Dubai Municipality, Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, said the initiative strengthens Dubai’s global leadership in sustainable city development.
“Through this roadmap, Dubai Municipality is advancing a flexible, inclusive, and long-term urban model that positions beaches, parks, and public spaces as integrated infrastructure assets,” he said. “Our goal is for Dubai to be a city built for people, growing in harmony with nature – a resilient and sustainable city that delivers the highest quality of life for current and future generations.”
He added that Dubai is not only implementing advanced sustainability models locally but also sharing its integrated urban development framework globally.
The Blue and Green Spaces Roadmap 2030 is designed to improve quality of life, support climate resilience, encourage active lifestyles, and embed environmental sustainability into the city’s long-term growth strategy, reinforcing Dubai’s ambition to become one of the world’s most liveable and sustainable cities.
