DUBAI, UAE — Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai, expressed his profound sorrow on Monday over the passing of esteemed Islamic scholar Sheikh Muhammad Ali. The scholar, highly regarded for his contributions to Islamic education and charitable projects, passed away on July 15.
In a heartfelt message on X, Sheikh Mohammed described Sheikh Muhammad Ali as one of Dubai’s distinguished scholars, noting his significant impact on the community through education and charitable work.
“Hundreds of students graduated under his leadership. He wrote more than 70 books on Sharia science. He completed dozens of charitable projects. His council was full of goodness, Sharia knowledge, and interaction with the people,” the Ruler stated.
Sheikh Mohammed extended his condolences to the scholar’s family and relatives, saying, “May God have mercy on him and place him in spacious gardens and grant his family and relatives patience and solace.”
In 2016, Sheikh Muhammad Ali was honored as the Islamic Personality of the Year by the Dubai International Holy Quran Award at the age of 96. Born in 1920, he completed his education at Al Azhar University in Cairo and taught Arabic and Sharia sciences at Sultan Al Ulama School for Religious Sciences for over 40 years.
The scholar’s literary contributions include an 11-part Quran explanation, and his lifetime achievements encompass more than 200 charity projects.
