Dubai, UAE — Dubai Police impounded 17 vehicles and issued 101 fines last week against drivers engaged in reckless and disruptive behavior on Al Meydan Street. The violations, which included illegal vehicle use, excessive noise, and dangerous stunts, not only endangered the lives of the drivers but also compromised the safety of other road users and disturbed nearby residential areas.
Maj-Gen Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, Acting Assistant Commander-in-Chief for Operations, confirmed that the impounded vehicles would be held for varying periods, depending on the severity of the offence. Fines were issued in accordance with the Federal Traffic and Roads Law.
Strict Penalties for Violators
Under Decree No. 30 of 2023, violators face a release fee of up to Dh50,000 as part of stringent deterrent measures against such hazardous driving behavior. Al Mazrouei emphasized that Dubai Police is committed to ensuring road safety and maintaining the emirate’s civilised image, making it clear that there is zero tolerance for offenders.
“Despite repeated warnings, some drivers persist in engaging in dangerous driving practices, and decisive action is necessary to uphold traffic security,” Al Mazrouei stated. He urged the public, especially youth, to adhere to traffic regulations for the safety of all road users and to contribute to safer roads across the emirate.
Public Cooperation Encouraged
The police are calling for greater public cooperation in reporting dangerous driving behavior. Citizens can report violations through the “Police Eye” service on the Dubai Police smart app or by contacting the “We Are All Police” hotline at 901.
Al Mazrouei also reiterated that the law imposes strict penalties for anyone who endangers lives, damages infrastructure, or harms the environment, and Dubai Police will not hesitate to take legal action, including referring violators to the judiciary.
This initiative aligns with Dubai Police’s #SafeRoadforEveryone awareness campaign, aiming to ensure safer roads and more responsible driving across the city.
