Dubai International Airport Sets Record with 92.3 Million Passengers in 2024

Surpassing Pre-Pandemic Highs & Preparing for the Future

Dubai, UAE (AP) – Dubai International Airport (DXB), the world’s busiest airport for international travel, recorded 92.3 million passengers in 2024, breaking its previous record set in 2018 (89.1 million passengers) and fully surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

This milestone reinforces Dubai’s status as a global aviation hub, driven by the growth of Emirates Airlines, a booming real estate sector, and record tourism numbers.

DXB’s Unmatched Global Reach

Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths highlighted the airport’s unparalleled efficiency, handling record-breaking traffic with just two runways on a limited geographical footprint.

DXB and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC) currently serve:
✔ 106 airlines
✔ 272 destinations
✔ 107 countries

Top passenger markets in 2024:
🇮🇳 India – 12 million passengers
🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia – 7.6 million passengers
🇬🇧 United Kingdom – 6.2 million passengers

The $35 Billion Move to Al Maktoum International (DWC) by 2032

With DXB operating at full capacity, Dubai plans to relocate its main airport operations to DWC by 2032 following a $35 billion expansion.

Key highlights of the next-generation airport at DWC:
🚀 5 parallel runways
🚀 400 aircraft gates
🚀 Futuristic terminal design inspired by traditional Bedouin tents
🚀 Smart, seamless passenger processing with facial recognition

Griffiths envisions the new airport as a highly efficient travel experience, saying:

“It should be like a well-designed railway station – you arrive, face recognition through the gate, and immediately you are at leisure.”

Dubai’s Lead Over Heathrow & The Global Race in Aviation

Dubai International has outpaced London Heathrow in international passenger numbers for over a decade. While the UK government recently backed a third runway at Heathrow, Griffiths remains confident in Dubai’s lead, joking:

“By the time DWC Phase 2 opens, Heathrow might still be debating Runway 3 with no spade in the ground.”

Dubai’s Aviation Future: Leading the World

Dubai’s continued dominance in global aviation is fueled by visionary infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a thriving economy. With DXB’s record-breaking year and DWC’s ambitious expansion, Dubai is poised to remain the world’s premier gateway for international travel.
