Filipina tennis star Alex Eala bowed out of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships after a 6-0, 6-2 loss to world No. 4 Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals.
Gauff dominated from the start, breaking Eala’s serve immediately and racing to a 3-0 lead in the opening set. The American continued her strong form throughout, leaving Eala struggling to gain momentum. By the end of the first set, Gauff had taken all six games with authority.
The second set saw a similar pattern, with Gauff quickly establishing a 3-0 lead. Eala managed to win a couple of games, showing glimpses of her fighting spirit, but Gauff’s power and consistency proved too much, closing out the match 6-0, 6-2.
Reflecting on her performance, Eala acknowledged the gap between herself and top-tier players. “Coco played really well. It wasn’t my best performance at all, but I’m happy I was able to show a better level in the final few games,” she said. “There’s definitely still a gap in terms of level between me and Coco, so it’s my job to work on closing that gap.”
Gauff advances to the semi-finals, where she will meet the winner of the clash between Antonia Ruzic and Elina Svitolina.
Eala’s fans continued to support her throughout, praising her determination and sportsmanship despite the tough defeat.
