UAE Cabinet Approves Comprehensive AI Policy to Guide Global Engagement

UAE — The UAE Cabinet has officially endorsed the country’s stance on global artificial intelligence (AI) policy, outlining the framework for the responsible use of AI technology and its strategic objectives.

The new policy emphasizes support for international regulations that hold nations accountable for the development of AI tools that could pose risks or lead to instability. It advocates for the formation of global alliances to govern and enhance AI systems while promoting responsible application through research and development initiatives aimed at fostering peace and stability. Key concerns such as security, privacy protection, and data safety are central to the policy’s implementation.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, highlighted the importance of aligning technological advancements with societal well-being. “The UAE has become a significant player in the global governance of artificial intelligence, actively contributing to international policy discussions and helping define the standards and frameworks that will shape the future of AI,” he stated.

The policy aims to leverage AI for economic diversification and innovation, promoting the development of impactful technological solutions.

Six Core Principles

The AI policy is built upon six core principles: advancement, cooperation, community, ethics, sustainability, and security. These principles reflect the UAE’s commitment to ensuring that AI development aligns with ethical, social, and environmental priorities.

Omran Sharaf, Assistant Foreign Minister for Advanced Science and Technology, noted that the adoption of such policies would strengthen the UAE’s leadership role in AI development and utilization. “By aligning the country’s foreign policy with global artificial intelligence standards, we enable local stakeholders, including private enterprises and research institutions, to address the challenges of AI on an international scale,” Sharaf emphasized.

This comprehensive policy positions the UAE as a proactive participant in shaping the future of AI, setting a precedent for responsible governance and innovation in the sector.
