Dubai – The Indian Consulate in Dubai has officially announced a large-scale celebration to mark the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), set to take place on June 21 at Expo Centre Sharjah. The event, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” is expected to bring together thousands of participants in a mass display of wellness and unity through yoga.
The announcement was made by Consul General of India in Dubai, Satish Kumar Sivan, during a curtain-raiser event held at the consulate on Thursday. Highlighting the significance of yoga as a universal gift of India to the world, Sivan said, “We are very happy that we are at that time of the year when the community comes together—not just the Indian community, but everyone who calls the UAE home—united in pursuit of holistic health. Yoga, though it originated in India, is a treasure for all humanity. This year, as we celebrate the UAE’s ‘Year of Community,’ we are proud to showcase the 11th International Day of Yoga event in Sharjah.”
He also unveiled a dedicated website for participant registration. Those interested in joining must register using either their Emirates ID or passport details via the official platform: https://cgidubai.zohobackstage.in/InternationalDayofYoga2025-11thEdition#/?lang=en. Sivan encouraged not only members of the Indian expatriate community but also the broader international population, yoga practitioners, and wellness enthusiasts across the UAE to take part in the event.
Reflecting on the popularity of last year’s IDY celebration, which drew nearly 6,000 participants despite only 5,000 pre-registrations, Sivan expressed confidence that this year’s event will attract even larger numbers. He confirmed that gates will open at 5 p.m. at the venue, with the yoga sessions and cultural programmes scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
Participants are advised to bring their own yoga mats, although a limited number will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis. The consulate is also coordinating shuttle services from nearby public transport stations to facilitate access to the venue. Transportation details and additional instructions will be released closer to the event date.
The celebration promises to deliver a vibrant experience with guided yoga sessions and cultural performances, reinforcing the message of well-being and interconnectedness. Separate Yoga Day events are also planned in Abu Dhabi under the patronage of the Indian Embassy.
This initiative underscores the growing popularity of yoga in the UAE and serves as a reminder of its power to foster community, peace, and individual health in an increasingly connected world.
