Emirates Road Set to Fully Reopen, Easing Abu Dhabi–Sharjah Commute

Dubai’s Emirates Road, one of the UAE’s busiest highways linking Abu Dhabi and Sharjah through Dubai, is set to fully reopen in the coming days, promising smoother travel for thousands of motorists who rely on the route daily.

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) confirmed that all remaining works on the strategic corridor are in their final stages, with the highway expected to be fully operational before the end of the week. The reopening is anticipated to significantly reduce congestion, particularly during peak travel hours.

Emirates Road serves as a critical artery for inter-emirate commuters, commercial transport, and logistics, connecting major residential and industrial hubs. Over recent months, sections of the highway had been partially closed for upgrading works aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and capacity.

“The completion of this project will not only improve road efficiency but also enhance the overall driving experience between Abu Dhabi, Dubai, and Sharjah,” an RTA spokesperson said, adding that the upgrades are part of broader plans to support the UAE’s growing population and expanding economy.

Motorists can expect wider lanes, improved exits, and upgraded safety features along the route. Traffic experts believe the reopening will ease pressure on alternative roads such as Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, which has seen heavier congestion during the closure period.

For residents and businesses, the reopening is a welcome development. Logistics operators say reduced travel times will cut costs and improve efficiency, while commuters hope for a smoother, less stressful drive across emirates.

Authorities have urged drivers to remain cautious in the first days after reopening, as motorists adjust to new traffic patterns and upgraded road features.

The Emirates Road upgrade is part of Dubai’s long-term mobility strategy, which includes road expansion, intelligent traffic systems, and integration with public transport networks to meet future demand.
