Dubai Police Impound Minibus Loaded with Gas Cylinders Amid Safety Concerns

Dubai Police have seized a minibus carrying dozens of gas cylinders, warning that the dangerously overloaded vehicle posed a serious fire and public safety risk.

The vehicle was stopped during routine patrols after officers noticed it swerving along a busy road. Upon inspection, authorities discovered the minibus crammed with gas cylinders, some improperly secured and without required safety measures.

Colonel Abdullah Bishwah, Director of the Traffic Control Department, said the driver was immediately taken into custody and the minibus impounded. “Transporting hazardous materials without proper permits and safety precautions endangers not only the driver but everyone on the road,” he said.

Police stressed that such violations could lead to catastrophic accidents, particularly in Dubai’s extreme heat, where poorly stored gas cylinders are prone to leakage or explosions.

Authorities added that the case has been referred to prosecutors, and the driver could face heavy fines, black points on his license, and even possible suspension of his right to drive commercial vehicles.

The incident comes as Dubai Police step up inspections across the emirate to ensure compliance with safety regulations. Officers are particularly targeting vehicles transporting flammable or hazardous materials without the necessary permits or adherence to safety standards.

Residents were urged to report any suspicious vehicles carrying unsafe loads by contacting Dubai Police’s hotline or using the official mobile app.

Police reiterated their commitment to preventing accidents through strict enforcement, with Colonel Bishwah warning: “Public safety is our top priority. We will not tolerate negligence that puts lives at risk.”
