Dubai Municipality has successfully recruited 4,791 volunteers and activists during the first half of this year to contribute to a healthy and sustainable environment in the emirate. These dedicated volunteers actively participated in the “An Hour with the Cleaning Worker” campaign, assisting with various cleaning tasks and waste collection across beaches, markets, commercial areas, industrial zones, residential areas, and desert locations.
Eng. Saeed Abdul Rahim Safar, Acting Director of the Waste Operations Department at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the municipality’s commitment to community service projects and volunteer work in the domains of public hygiene and environmentally friendly waste management. These volunteer efforts contribute to the municipality’s initiatives in waste management, environmental preservation, maintaining Dubai’s allure, and ensuring efficient municipal services for the public at all times.
Safar highlighted the achievements of the “An Hour with the Cleaning Worker” initiative, stating, “During the first half of this year, the initiative recorded 4,791 hours of volunteer work in the field of public sanitation. These hours were contributed by volunteers representing 62 governmental, corporate, and civil organizations, encompassing workers, students, and individuals with determination. A total of 9.4 tons of waste was collected from beaches, deserts, and residential areas, with 70% of it directed to recycling facilities. These efforts have made Dubai cleaner, more sustainable, and aesthetically appealing.”
This year-round project aims to promote the charitable and environmental initiatives of the community. Organizations interested in participating can coordinate with Dubai Municipality to determine the level of voluntary involvement and engage their teams and staff in this program.
Dubai Municipality’s volunteer community project, “An Hour with the Cleaning Worker,” received the prestigious “Community Footprint Award” at the 10th annual “Watani Al Emarat Humanitarian Work Award,” themed “This is What Shaikh Zayed Loves.” Additionally, the UAE secured first place in the “Prince Mohammad Bin Fahd International Foundation Insignia for Voluntary Work” as a result of this commendable initiative.
