A 5.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Fukushima Prefecture in Japan

An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale struck the waters off Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan.
The Japanese Meteorological Agency said in a statement that the earthquake occurred at a depth of 50 kilometers, noting that there were no immediate reports of casualties or material damage as a result of the earthquake.

No warnings were issued about the possibility of tsunami waves in the area.
