UAE Leaders Order Release of Thousands of Prisoners for National Day

In celebration of the UAE’s 53rd National Day, several UAE leaders have ordered the release of prisoners across the country.

UAE President Sheikh Mohamed announced the release of 2,269 inmates from various penal and correctional institutions, pledging to cover all fines and penalties imposed on them. The initiative aims to offer these individuals a fresh start, bring stability to their lives, and alleviate the suffering of their families.

In Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, ordered the release of 1,169 prisoners, emphasizing the values of tolerance and giving. He stated that the decision would give inmates the opportunity to “return to the right path” and reintegrate into society as responsible citizens.

Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, also pardoned 683 prisoners, with a focus on those showing good conduct. Similarly, in Fujairah, Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Sharqi, Ruler of Fujairah, ordered the release of 118 prisoners based on their positive behavior and eligibility.

These moves align with the UAE’s commitment to supporting rehabilitation and reintegration efforts, as highlighted by a new Federal Decree-Law issued yesterday, which focuses on empowering prisoners to re-enter society while safeguarding their rights.
