Dubai Woman Jailed and Fined for Dh10,000 Job Recruitment Scam

A Dubai court has convicted a woman of defrauding an unsuspecting job seeker out of Dh10,000 in a recruitment scam, sentencing her to prison and ordering her to repay the stolen amount.

The Case

According to court records, the woman posed as a recruitment agent and falsely promised the victim employment in the UAE. She persuaded the complainant to transfer Dh10,000 as a “placement fee,” claiming it was required to secure the position.

When the job never materialised and repeated attempts to contact the woman failed, the victim lodged a complaint with authorities. Investigations by Dubai Police traced the fraudulent activity back to the accused, leading to her arrest.

Court Ruling

The Dubai Criminal Court found the woman guilty of fraud and misrepresentation. She was sentenced to one year in jail and ordered to return Dh10,000 to the victim. After serving her prison term, she will also be deported from the UAE.

Broader Context

Employment-related scams are a recurring issue in the region, with fraudsters often targeting job seekers through social media platforms and unofficial recruitment channels. Authorities have repeatedly urged residents and expatriates to be cautious and verify opportunities through licensed agencies only.

The UAE government has tightened regulations on recruitment practices, and violators face hefty fines, imprisonment, and deportation.

Public Advisory

Officials stressed that legitimate recruitment agencies in Dubai never demand upfront payments from job seekers. Applicants are encouraged to report suspicious offers through official channels, including Dubai Police’s e-crime portal.
