Dubai’s Tourism Sector Witnesses Surge with a 10% Increase in Demand

Dubai continues to solidify its position as a premier global destination, experiencing a notable 10% surge in demand during the last quarter of 2023 compared to the same period the previous year. The Emirate aims to strengthen its reputation as the best city to work, live, and visit globally, aligning with the objectives outlined in the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

The Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai disclosed the latest statistics, revealing that the city attracted 13.9 million international visitors between January and October 2023, a significant increase of 22% compared to the same period in the previous year. This robust performance positions Dubai as the fastest-recovering destination worldwide, surpassing expectations set by the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

According to STR, a hotel research and consulting specialist, Dubai secured the fourth position globally in terms of occupancy rates, trailing behind destinations like New York and London. The city’s success is underscored by its ability to exceed recovery projections, with over 149,000 rooms in 818 hotel establishments by the end of October, compared to approximately 122,000 rooms in 724 establishments in 2019.

Officials in the tourism and hospitality sector emphasized Dubai’s appeal as a top winter destination, with expectations of continued high occupancy rates during the festive season. Sam Al-Asmar, Vice President of Revenue and Distribution at Rotana Hotels, anticipates reservations exceeding 95%, noting Dubai’s attractiveness due to trust, safety, and a diverse range of activities.

Various hotel groups, including Radisson Hotel Group and W The Palm Hotel, reported occupancy levels exceeding 90% during the holiday season, aligning with Dubai’s vision for a distinctive New Year celebration. Greg Moses, manager of The First Collection Waterfront Hotel, highlighted the hotel’s offerings, including a 30% discount on room rates and numerous events, reinforcing Dubai’s standing as a global tourist destination.

Atlantis, The Palm Resort, is set to celebrate the New Year with unique experiences and entertainment, showcasing the city’s hospitality with diverse activities. The Aquaventure Water Park is also gearing up for daily festive events, featuring activities such as feeding the snowman, the festive freeze dance, and a Christmas gift hunting game.

As Dubai prepares to welcome tourists in December, the emirate’s strategic location, safety measures, and an array of offerings position it as one of the most prominent winter destinations worldwide, drawing visitors from diverse nationalities.
