In a groundbreaking collaboration, The Climate Tribe Platform and the Hamdan International Photography Award have signed a cooperation agreement to harness the power of photography to contribute to climate action and awareness.
The agreement was signed by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the President, and CEO of The Climate Tribe Platform, and His Excellency Ali bin Thalith, the Secretary-General of the Hamdan International Photography Award, at the Independent Accelerators Pavilion for the UAE Climate Change during the COP28 UN Framework Convention on Climate Change conference. This marks the commencement of an inspirational partnership for global environmental awareness and impactful climate action towards sustainability.
The “COP28 Photography Competition” is the first initiative under this partnership, inviting photography professionals to participate by capturing creative images within two main categories: “The Planet” and “Solutions,” with submissions accepted until December 31, 2023.
This collaboration aims to leverage the profound impact of photographic art on climate action within a sustainable local and global interactive community. The initiative includes creating a collection of climate-themed photographs emphasizing sustainability, drawing from the Hamdan International Photography Award archive. Additionally, the partnership involves developing new content and images on the subject. It also envisions hosting community-focused photography events and exhibitions centered on sustainability to promote awareness and inspire climate action.
Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan expressed, “The partnership with The Climate Tribe Platform and the Hamdan International Photography Award reflects our commitment to exploring innovative ways to creatively narrate stories about sustainability and climate change.”
She added, “The ‘COP28 Photography Competition’ invites participating photographers to highlight the importance of climate action through their contributions. I look forward to witnessing each entry playing a motivating role for change, inspiring individuals and communities to take meaningful steps toward a sustainable future.”
Ali bin Thalith emphasized, “‘COP28 Photography Competition’ as the first initiative resulting from this partnership brings together professional photographers worldwide to express the essence of climate action and sustainability through their lenses. The judging committee will evaluate submissions based on creativity, depth of impact, and the ability to convey the message about climate action.”
He further stated that the collaboration between The Climate Tribe Platform and the Hamdan International Photography Award is a significant step that integrates art with climate action and environmental awareness. By harnessing the narrative power of photography, this partnership aims to document connections between global communities and raise awareness about the urgent need for climate action.
It’s noteworthy that The Climate Tribe Platform, a social enterprise based in Abu Dhabi affiliated with the UAE Climate Change independent accelerators, was founded in September 2023. Led by Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, the founder and CEO, its mission is to stimulate climate action through storytelling, interactive community engagement, and broad collaboration.
