The holy month of Ramadan is expected to begin on Thursday, February 19, 2026, according to preliminary astronomical calculations released by the Emirates Astronomy Society.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Society, explained that the new crescent moon marking the start of Ramadan will be born on Tuesday, February 17, at 4:01pm (UAE time). However, it will set just one minute after sunset, making its sighting impossible that evening.
As a result, the first day of Ramadan is projected to fall on Thursday, February 19, pending official confirmation by the moon-sighting committees.
Fasting Hours in Abu Dhabi
Al Jarwan noted that fasting hours will begin at approximately 12 hours and 46 minutes on the first day of Ramadan, gradually extending to 13 hours and 25 minutes by the end of the month. Daylight hours will also lengthen during this period, from 11 hours and 32 minutes to 12 hours and 12 minutes.
Weather Outlook
Temperatures in Abu Dhabi during Ramadan 2026 are forecast to range between 16°C and 28°C at the start of the holy month, influenced by lingering northern winter winds. Toward the end of Ramadan, as spring weather patterns develop, temperatures are expected to rise to between 19°C and 32°C, accompanied by westerly winds.
The Emirates Astronomy Society stressed that while astronomical projections provide guidance, the official start of Ramadan will only be confirmed through the traditional moon-sighting process observed in the UAE and across the Muslim world.
