A luxury chocolate cake marketed as “Dubai-style” has been pulled from supermarket shelves after food safety authorities warned it could pose a serious risk to people with allergies.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) issued an urgent recall notice on Wednesday, saying the product contains undeclared nuts and milk proteins that were not listed on the packaging. Consumers with allergies or intolerances were advised not to eat the cake and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
According to the regulator, the issue was identified during routine checks. “Clear labelling is vital to protect consumers with food allergies,” an FSA spokesperson said. “The absence of accurate allergen information in this case could have life-threatening consequences.”
The “Dubai-style chocolate cake,” known for its rich layers and luxury branding, has become a popular dessert item in recent months, stocked in both major retailers and boutique bakeries. Food safety officers said the recall affects all batches currently on sale.
Retailers have been instructed to display point-of-sale notices alerting customers to the recall, while the manufacturer has apologised for the error. In a statement, the company said: “We take food safety extremely seriously. We are working closely with authorities to identify how this labelling oversight occurred and to ensure it does not happen again.”
Food allergy campaigners welcomed the swift action but urged stricter oversight. “We continue to see recalls caused by poor labelling practices,” said Sarah Collins, director of Allergy UK. “This highlights the need for manufacturers to prioritise allergen safety at every stage of production.”
The recall comes amid a rising number of allergen-related alerts across the UK, with food safety bodies warning businesses that even small errors can carry severe health risks.
Customers who purchased the cake are advised to check batch codes on the FSA website and contact the manufacturer’s helpline for refunds or further information.
