A pivotal moment in the evolution of Zayed University unfolded this week as the inaugural session of the Board of Trustees convened at the Abu Dhabi campus. This landmark event marked the beginning of a new era characterized by collaborative leadership within the university.
Amidst the board meeting, trustees actively engaged with Zayed University’s extensive community, including faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The session was marked by significant discussions and insights aimed at charting the institution’s strategic direction within the landscape of higher education in the UAE. This strategic alignment seeks to harmonize the university’s mission with national priorities and ambitions.
Shamma bint Suhail Faris Al Mazrui, Minister of Community Development and Chairman of Zayed University, extended a warm welcome to the new board members. She emphasized the profound responsibility that the Board carries in shaping the university’s future trajectory. In her words, “The Board has a vital role in setting the university’s strategic direction within the UAE’s higher education landscape and aligning it with national priorities and ambitions.”
Furthermore, the meeting witnessed a significant appointment as Rima Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, a Member of the Board of Trustees and the Executive Director of Strategic Affairs at the Executive Affairs Authority in Abu Dhabi, was appointed as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees.
Dr. Michael Allen, Provost and Acting Vice President at Zayed University, presented a comprehensive overview of the university’s diverse programs, ongoing initiatives, and strategic aspirations, highlighting its commitment to excellence in education and research.
Chairman Al Mazrui underlined the collective significance of the Board’s engagement, emphasizing Zayed University’s pivotal role as a leading academic institution in the region. She remarked, “Zayed University holds a distinguished status as one of the region’s leading academic institutions, and it is both a privilege and a responsibility for the Board to assume its role in this context.”
She continued, “The future achievements of the UAE are linked to the future success and prosperity of this university. This view is shared by all of my colleagues on the new Board of Trustees, and we all look forward to working together to cultivate a new generation of exceptionally capable graduates, who will make a significant contribution to the sustainable development and success of the UAE.”
