President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan welcomed the team responsible for overseeing the 28th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28) at Qasr Al Bahr Majlis. During the meeting, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its pivotal role in advancing global climate action. He stressed the significance of international solidarity and collaboration in addressing pressing climate challenges.
The gathering was attended by members of the National Higher Committee overseeing preparations for hosting COP28 UAE. The committee plays a vital role in orchestrating the conference and aligning efforts with the UAE’s vision of promoting climate solutions.
His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed was briefed on the comprehensive preparations for COP28 and the four pillars of the COP28 Action Agenda. These pillars encompass expediting a just and organized energy transition, enhancing climate finance, prioritizing nature and livelihoods in climate initiatives, and fostering inclusivity in national climate strategies.
Underlining the UAE’s profound environmental legacy, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed underscored that hosting COP28 builds upon the nation’s historical dedication to environmental stewardship, a legacy initiated by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Founding Father of the UAE. By hosting this critical event, the UAE not only continues its commitment to the environment but also engages youth, women, and civil society in mobilizing global efforts against climate change.
His Highness noted that hosting COP28 serves as an invitation to the world to unite in collaborative action for the common good. He emphasized that the relentless efforts of the COP28 team resonate with the global imperative to accelerate climate action and address the climate crisis.
Under the UAE Presidency, COP28 aims to lead international endeavors in safeguarding the planet and securing a prosperous future for generations to come. Leveraging its international partnerships, modern infrastructure, and experience as a convener of global events, the UAE seeks to foster inclusive dialogue and cooperation while driving practical climate solutions and sustainable development.
The President highlighted the essential role played by the Higher Committee overseeing COP28 preparations, which includes key figures such as H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and UAE Special Envoy for Climate Change; and other prominent leaders and experts across various sectors.
