UAE Condemns Attack on Afghanistan’s Ministry of Refugees, Expresses Condolences

ABU DHABI, UAE — The UAE has strongly condemned the attack on Afghanistan’s Ministry of Refugees, which resulted in the death of Refugee Minister Khalil Rahman Haqqani and several others. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) expressed its “strong condemnation of these criminal acts” and reiterated its firm stance against all forms of violence and terrorism.

In its statement, the UAE Ministry extended sincere condolences to the government and people of Afghanistan, particularly to the families of the victims. Haqqani was killed in a suicide bombing claimed by Daesh, marking the first such attack on a minister since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.

Taliban authorities labeled the bombing a “cowardly attack” and expressed their determination to continue countering terrorism in the country. While violence has decreased in Afghanistan since the Taliban took control, a regional branch of Daesh has remained active, frequently targeting civilians, foreign nationals, and Taliban officials with gun and bomb attacks.

The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) also condemned the attack, stressing that “there can be no place for terrorism in the quest for stability” and offering condolences to the victims’ families.
