On the morning of December 2, the Al Sameeh area in Abu Dhabi came alive with energy and patriotism as the UAE marked Union Day alongside the 10th anniversary of the National Service Law. The occasion brought together key figures from the UAE leadership, including Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Vice-President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Presidential Court, and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence. The leaders toured the venue in a military vehicle, showcasing their active involvement in the day’s festivities.
As the sun rose, a spectacular 21-gun salute filled the air, marking the official start of the celebrations. The resonating shots set the tone for a day dedicated to honoring the valor and dedication of the UAE’s armed forces. The National Service Law, which plays a pivotal role in instilling values of loyalty, belonging, and sacrifice among the UAE’s youth, was highlighted as a cornerstone of the nation’s history.
The parade featured a stunning display of military strength and unity, blending traditional and modern elements. Military bands filled the air with patriotic anthems, while the atmosphere was charged with excitement as families and veterans gathered to witness the event. One of the most thrilling moments of the day was the air show, where Apache helicopters performed breathtaking maneuvers in the sky, leaving trails of smoke that formed the letters ‘UAE’. The show not only demonstrated the country’s advanced defense capabilities but also symbolized the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding its sovereignty.
The parade also showcased specialized military transport aircraft, emphasizing the UAE’s resilience and readiness. Throughout the event, the Sheikhs remained actively engaged, leading various segments of the parade and interacting with the troops, fostering a strong sense of camaraderie.
A key moment came when the flag of the Khalifa bin Zayed Airborne Brigade was ceremonially handed over, symbolizing the armed forces’ unwavering loyalty and dedication. This act further reinforced the spirit of unity and commitment to the nation’s values. As the day came to a close, members of the armed forces took an oath of loyalty, pledging their dedication to the UAE and its leaders. This solemn promise served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made to preserve the UAE’s progress and ensure its future.
Among the many attendees were Hala S. and Shuaib Al Masoud, who were filled with pride as they experienced the celebrations. Hala commented, “The parade was absolutely breathtaking! It reminded us all of the sacrifices made to keep our nation safe and united. This was the perfect way to spend National Day!” Shuaib reflected on a special moment, saying, “Seeing Sheikh Mohammed wave to the crowds was the happiest moment for me. It felt so personal and connected; it was like he was acknowledging each one of us.”
Colonel Mohammed Salem Al Mansouri, Deputy Director of the Reserve Service Affairs Directorate at the National Service and Reserve Authority, shared his thoughts on the significance of the day. “This is a national day that we celebrate with two occasions: the establishment of the Union and the tenth anniversary of the National and Reserve Service Authority Law. This celebration resonates deeply with all segments of UAE society, from our wise leadership to every individual, including our expat brothers who share in our joy,” he said.
Colonel Al Mansouri also praised the meticulous preparations for the event, noting that the high level of coordination among various government agencies reflected the UAE’s commitment to excellence and the guidance of its leadership.
