The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has unveiled the “Digital UAE – Factsheet” report, shedding light on key aspects of digital life and performance indicators of the UAE’s robust digital transformation.
In line with TDRA’s digital transformation strategy, the report encompasses various facets of life within the UAE community across public and private sectors. Highlighting the country’s impressive digital landscape, the report revealed that active Internet users constitute a remarkable 99 percent of the total population in the UAE, a global record. Internet usage spans a diverse spectrum, encompassing social networking, work-related tasks, information searches, learning, entertainment, and shopping.
The report underscored the rapid growth of download speeds on smartphones, which reached an impressive 161.15 Mbit/s, marking a year-on-year increase of over 2.3 percent. Meanwhile, fixed internet download speeds surged to 207.41 Mbit/s, demonstrating a significant uptick in speed and performance.
Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director-General of TDRA, emphasized the report’s reflection of the UAE’s digital maturity and its alignment with Vision ‘We the UAE 2031’. He noted, “The report reflects the digital landscape in the UAE overall and in particular the high level of adopting digital solutions whether in everyday life or government/public services.”
The report also highlighted the Unified Digital Platform of the UAE government (U.ae), a comprehensive interface for public information and services provided by UAE governmental entities. With 19 million visitors and 30 million visits in 2022, the platform’s success was evident through its 90 percent visitor happiness index.
The report showcased the advancements of the digital identity app (UAE Pass), which saw its registered user count reach 5 million, enabling access to nearly 15,000 electronic services.
The UAE’s top-level domain “.ae” witnessed a surge in adoption, with over 300,000 registered websites. The report introduced the TDRA’s “Name Idea” service, utilizing generative AI algorithms for selecting suitable domain names, which experienced a 65 percent demand increase a month after its launch.
In the realm of social media, the UAE boasted 10 million active accounts, surpassing population and internet user figures. App downloads reached 569 million, signifying a year-on-year rise of 16.4 percent, while app purchase spending grew to AED 1.587 billion, reflecting a 25.3 percent increase in expenditure.
The “Digital UAE – Factsheet” report stands as a testament to the UAE’s unwavering commitment to digital transformation, innovation, and continued excellence on both national and global fronts.
