Dubai, UAE – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed three key traffic improvements on Sheikh Zayed Road, aimed at boosting road capacity and efficiency. The enhancements align with RTA’s strategic mobility plans, ensuring smooth traffic flow and supporting Dubai’s rapid urban expansion.
Strategic Importance of Sheikh Zayed Road
Sheikh Zayed Road serves as a vital traffic corridor and an economic hub, surrounded by key residential, commercial, and financial districts, including the Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall. It is also home to global corporations, banks, investment institutions, hotels, and entertainment facilities, making it a critical artery for both daily commuters and commercial activity.
Key Traffic Enhancements
1. Increased Merging Distances at Umm Al Sheif and Al Manara Streets
- The merging distances between Umm Al Sheif Street and Al Manara Street (towards Abu Dhabi) have been extended.
- An additional lane has been introduced for traffic heading towards Al Manara Street.
- This improvement is expected to increase vehicle capacity by 30%, easing congestion and enhancing entry and exit flows.
2. Expansion of Service Road Exit Near Shangri-La Hotel
- The exit from the service road in front of the Shangri-La Hotel, leading to the First Interchange near Dubai Mall, has been modified.
- Merging distances between the service road entry and the exit toward Al Safa Street and Dubai Mall have been expanded.
- The goal is to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow at this busy location.
3. Extended Merging Distance Between Al Marabi and Al Manara Streets
- The merging distance between Al Marabi Street and Al Manara Street (towards Abu Dhabi) has been lengthened.
- This aims to reduce congestion at merging points, shorten waiting times, and enhance traffic movement during peak hours.
Commitment to a More Efficient Road Network
Abdullah Lootah, Director of Road and Facilities Maintenance at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, emphasized the importance of these upgrades, stating:
“RTA places great emphasis on enhancing the road network, with Sheikh Zayed Road being a top priority. These improvements will ease congestion, improve safety, and support Dubai’s economic growth.”
The RTA continues to invest in infrastructure projects, reinforcing Dubai’s position as a global leader in smart mobility and urban development.
