According to the Natural Resources and Energy Agency of Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan’s crude oil imports from the United Arab Emirates reached 25.63 million barrels in June 2023, comprising 37.4 percent of the country’s total imports for that month.
In June, Japan’s total crude oil imports amounted to 68.5 million barrels, out of which 66.7 million barrels, or 97.3 percent, were sourced from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman.
Among these oil providers, Saudi Arabia was the leading supplier to Japan, contributing to 41.4 percent of total imports in June. Together with the UAE, these two countries accounted for over three-quarters of Japan’s crude oil needs, signifying their crucial role in ensuring the country’s energy security.
