Heavy Rain and Thunderstorms Sweep Across Abu Dhabi and Dubai

Heavy rain and thunderstorms disrupted the early morning tranquility in Abu Dhabi and Dubai today, catching residents off guard. The abrupt onset of inclement weather prompted the Met office to issue an amber alert, warning of rain-bearing clouds engulfing significant parts of the country.

Reports indicate that the tumultuous weather began its onslaught in the Al Dhafra and Al Sila areas of Abu Dhabi, with heavy rain reported as early as midnight. By 1:30 am, moderate to heavy rains, accompanied by small hailstones in some regions, were recorded over western islands of Abu Dhabi.

The intensity of the storm escalated rapidly, with moderate to heavy rainfall, thunder, and lightning spreading across Abu Dhabi by 2:30 am. Strong winds hastened the movement of rain clouds towards Dubai, where residents were awakened by thunder, lightning, and heavy rain around 3 am.

Areas such as Jebel Ali, Al Maktoum International Airport, Dubai Industrial City, Dubai Investments Park, and Jumeirah Village Triangle were among the locations affected by the downpour. Subsequently, rain clouds dispersed towards the eastern and southern regions, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall to various parts of Dubai by 3:30 to 4:30 am.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) issued safety advisories, urging residents to exercise caution during adverse weather conditions. Motorists were advised to avoid unnecessary travel and maintain vigilance on the roads. Additionally, the NCM emphasized the importance of turning on low-beam headlights to enhance visibility during reduced visibility caused by heavy rain.

While the NCM assured that the current weather situation was less severe compared to previous events, residents were cautioned to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas. Despite the weakened nature of the storm, authorities emphasized the importance of preparedness and adherence to safety measures.

As the UAE braces for further fluctuations in weather patterns, residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow updates from official sources to ensure their safety and well-being amidst unpredictable climatic conditions.
