The General Civil Aviation Authority has introduced a comprehensive cybersecurity policy for the civil aviation sector, stemming from the recently launched National Civil Aviation Cybersecurity Strategy. Developed in collaboration with the UAE Government Cybersecurity Council, the strategy aims to establish a secure digital infrastructure, enhancing the protection of civil aviation systems and networks in the country against potential cyber threats.
The newly launched policy provides a structured framework for implementing the objectives outlined in the national strategy, fostering better coordination among the national bodies and authorities responsible for its execution. Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the General Authority of Civil Aviation, emphasized that the civil aviation cybersecurity policy aims to create an organized and flexible framework, reinforcing cybersecurity tools and implementing advanced systems to shield the aviation sector’s infrastructure from potential cyber threats and risks.
Additionally, the policy seeks to ensure effective coordination and collaboration with relevant bodies and authorities, including the UAE Government Cybersecurity Council, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Defense, and other strategic partners. The Authority is currently in the process of developing guidance materials to support the implementation of the civil aviation cybersecurity policy. It is anticipated that this policy will play a pivotal role in enhancing the cybersecurity resilience of the civil aviation sector in the UAE and in regulating relationships among the authorities involved in this critical sector.
