DUBAI — With summer temperatures soaring and roads busier than ever, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched its annual ‘Summer Without Accidents’ campaign, aimed at reducing road incidents and promoting safe driving practices during the high-risk summer months.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Dubai Police, the three-month initiative will run from July through September, delivering a city-wide public awareness push focused on proactive vehicle maintenance, heat-related driving hazards, and safe behavior behind the wheel.
“This campaign aligns with our broader strategy to enhance transport safety and reduce preventable incidents,” said Ahmed Al Khzaimy, Director of Traffic at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency. “The summer heat places unique pressures on both drivers and vehicles, and we want to ensure motorists are well-prepared.”
Targeted Outreach Across the City
The campaign includes a wide network of outreach efforts, from digital billboards and in-app alerts to awareness messages on social media and at Customer Happiness Centres. Both government and private sector partners are supporting the drive to expand its reach.
RTA teams will also participate in public events such as Dubai Summer Surprises and student summer camps, with messaging tailored to resonate with families and young drivers.
“The aim is to embed a culture of traffic safety into everyday life,” Al Khzaimy said, noting that young and inexperienced drivers are especially vulnerable during summer road conditions.
Key Safety Messages for Drivers
At the core of the campaign is a focus on basic vehicle maintenance and responsible driving habits. RTA issued a list of practical safety tips, urging drivers to:
- Check tyre pressure, oil levels, and coolant regularly
- Inspect air conditioning systems for optimal performance
- Clean brakes, windows, and headlights for improved visibility and function
- Park in shaded areas to protect interiors and vehicle systems
- Avoid overloading and monitor dashboard alerts closely
Warning: Never Leave Children Unattended in Cars
A critical message of the campaign warns parents against leaving children alone in parked vehicles — a tragic but recurring issue during UAE summers.
“Even a few minutes in a closed vehicle can cause heatstroke or suffocation, especially for children,” Al Khzaimy emphasized. “We strongly urge parents — particularly mothers during school pick-ups or drop-offs — never to leave kids unattended, even if the air conditioning is on.”
Reinforcing Shared Responsibility
The RTA, supported by the Ministry of Interior, stressed that respecting traffic laws is a shared responsibility, reminding motorists to avoid speeding, maintain safe distances, and follow all road regulations.
The campaign underscores the RTA’s continued commitment to preventive safety, leveraging public education and community engagement to minimize road risks.
Residents can follow updates on the campaign through @rta_dubai on social media and RTA’s official website, where additional safety materials and event details will be shared throughout the summer.
As the school break begins and temperatures climb, Dubai authorities are sending a clear message: staying cool starts with staying safe behind the wheel.
