The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a major upgrade of signage across the Dubai Metro network, a move aimed at making travel easier and more convenient for millions of passengers.
The revamp, which covers both the Red and Green Lines, includes clearer wayfinding signs, improved station information panels, and upgraded digital displays. Officials said the initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to enhance passenger experience and align with global best practices in public transport.
“Metro users will now find it easier to navigate stations, transfer between lines, and access nearby facilities,” said Mohammed Al Mudharreb, CEO of the RTA’s Rail Agency. “The new signage was designed to be more intuitive, with clearer fonts, icons, and bilingual information for both residents and tourists.”
The update follows passenger feedback and international benchmarking studies that identified areas where station navigation could be improved. Many commuters had previously raised concerns about unclear directions when switching platforms or finding exits in busy stations such as Union, BurJuman, and Mall of the Emirates.
RTA said the project also supports Dubai’s preparations for major events and the city’s growing influx of tourists. With Dubai Metro carrying over 225 million riders annually, authorities stressed the importance of ensuring smooth passenger flow and reducing congestion at peak hours.
In addition to signage, the upgrade included enhancements to emergency exit markers, accessibility information for people of determination, and links to other modes of transport such as buses, taxis, and marine services.
Regular Metro users welcomed the changes, saying the clearer signs make their journeys more efficient. “It’s definitely easier to find my way now, especially when changing lines,” said Javed Khan, a commuter who travels daily from Al Rigga to Business Bay.
The RTA confirmed it will continue to review passenger experience across all modes of transport and hinted at further digital solutions, including mobile navigation support integrated into its RTA app.
“With this upgrade, we reaffirm our commitment to making public transport in Dubai not only world-class but also user-friendly for every passenger,” Al Mudharreb added.
