Dubai — The Dubai Appellate Court has upheld a verdict by the Court of First Instance sentencing two Asian nationals in connection with a drug trafficking case. One of the suspects received a life sentence, while the second was sentenced to six months in prison, followed by deportation for both after completing their respective sentences.
The case dates back to 2024, when Dubai Police received credible intelligence indicating that one of the suspects was in possession of narcotics and abusing drugs in the Jebel Ali Industrial Area.
According to court records, a police officer testified that a warrant for the second suspect’s arrest was issued following investigations that confirmed his involvement with narcotics. A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team apprehended him inside a vehicle, which was being driven by the first suspect.
Upon searching the suspects, authorities discovered a quantity of narcotics on both individuals. A plastic bag containing the same illegal substance was also recovered from the first suspect. Both were subsequently transferred to the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics, and samples were collected for laboratory testing.
A report from the General Directorate of Forensic Evidence and Criminology confirmed the seized substance was heroin, which is classified under Schedule 1 of the Federal Decree-Law on Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.
Toxicology results showed the second suspect tested positive for heroin use, which he admitted during interrogation, stating that he had purchased the drugs for Dhs100 from the first suspect. The first suspect denied the trafficking charges, but forensic and testimonial evidence proved he had sold narcotics, leading to his conviction for drug trafficking.
Authorities reiterated that Dubai maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related offences, with severe penalties aimed at deterring trafficking and abuse.
