The Dubai Committee for the Federal National Council (FNC) Elections has affirmed its readiness to conduct the electoral process for the 2023 Federal National Council in the emirate. The upcoming elections mark a significant milestone in the UAE’s efforts to promote political participation and empower citizens to contribute to the national decision-making process.
During a visit to the committee’s headquarters at Hatta Hall in the Dubai World Trade Centre, Essa Mohammed Khalifa Al Mutaiwei, Chairman of the Dubai Committee for the 2023 Federal National Council Elections, emphasized the committee’s commitment to upholding high standards of efficiency in the election process. He highlighted the vision of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in empowering citizens and building upon the late Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s efforts to enhance political participation.
Al Mutaiwei expressed gratitude for the support extended by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council; and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the UAE. Their support has played a crucial role in enabling the committee to fulfill its duties effectively.
Aligned with the leadership’s belief that political participation is a fundamental pillar of the UAE’s social development, the National Elections Committee for the Federal National Council Elections has adopted an innovative approach to manage the electoral process, explained Al Mutaiwei. The committee will facilitate essential procedures and ensure maximum convenience for candidates and voters. Trained Emirati personnel will handle candidate registration according to the necessary conditions and requirements.
Following the visit, the Dubai Elections Committee convened its regular meeting to review the schedule developed by the National Elections Committee. The electoral process will commence with the opening of candidate nominations on August 7, 2023. Candidates will have the opportunity to register from August 15 to 18. The process will culminate with the announcement of the final list of winners on October 13, 2023. The meeting also discussed the functions and responsibilities of the Dubai Elections Committee as outlined by the National Elections Committee.
Furthermore, the meeting highlighted that nomination forms will be provided upon receipt from the Elections Management Committee. Signages will be placed to guide candidates and voters to the Dubai Elections Committee’s headquarters at Hatta Hall in the Dubai World Trade Centre. The emirate-level Elections Committees play a vital role as executive bodies of the National Elections Committee. Working closely with the Elections Management Committee, they oversee the technical and administrative aspects of the Federal National Council elections in each emirate. Their responsibilities include receiving the final electoral college lists, notifying its members, providing necessary forms for the electoral process, coordinating with municipalities for campaign advertisement locations, proposing election centers, verifying candidate eligibility, monitoring adherence to campaign rules, reporting violations, and raising awareness about the electoral process through campaigns.
