During the General Assembly meeting held today in Abu Dhabi on the sidelines of the eighth edition of the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation re-elected His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al-Sayyid Mohammed Al Hashimi as President for a new term, by acclamation.
The meeting, attended by dignitaries including Panagiotos Theodoroupolis, President of the International Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and Joachim Thumfaert, Director-General of the International Federation, witnessed the election of Fahad Ali Al Shamsi as Secretary-General of the AFC, the appointment of Takamasa Watanabe as Deputy Secretary-General of the AFC, and Tariq Al-Bahri as Treasurer.
The General Assembly also approved the new Executive Council of the Federation, which includes Redha Monfardi, President of the Bahrain Jiu-Jitsu Federation, as First Vice-President, along with five Vice-Presidents representing various regions of Asia.
Discussions during the meeting encompassed a review of the Federation’s program of activities, work plans, and annual and technical reports, highlighting recent achievements such as increased participation in Jiu-Jitsu events and tournaments, and training programs across Asia.
The meeting also addressed the impact of major events, including the World Jiu-Jitsu Championship in Ulaanbaatar in 2023 and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022. A moment of silence was observed at the beginning of the meeting to honor the late Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan.
His Excellency Abdul Moneim Al Hashemi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by the General Assembly and pledged to continue efforts to develop Jiu-Jitsu in Asia. Fahd Ali Al Shamsi commended the outcomes of the meeting, emphasizing the renewal of confidence in Al Hashemi’s leadership and expressing commitment to implementing the Federation’s programs.
Suresh Gopi, senior consultant at the Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federation, hailed the meeting’s success and expressed optimism for the future, highlighting the commitment of members and the democratic process followed within the federation.
