Asia Wakefest Water Skiing Championships Kick Off in Abu Dhabi with Record Participation

Under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, the first round of the “Asia Wakefest Water Skiing Championships” commenced today in the capital, Abu Dhabi. The competition, hosting more than 120 participants from 20 countries, will run until Sunday and features intense challenges across 14 categories. The event takes place on the waters of the breakwater in Abu Dhabi and is organized by the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club.

This year’s participation numbers mark a record high since the club hosted the World Water Ski Championships in 2019. The tournament began with technical procedures for registration, free exercises for competitors, and qualifying competitions for various categories.

Water skiing competitions, classified as exhibition tournaments, involve competitors executing a series of demonstration movements on a surfboard. A jury supervises the point allocation, determining winners across all competitions.

Nasser Al Dhaheri, Head of the Modern Racing Department at the Abu Dhabi Marine Sports Club, extended a warm welcome to the participating delegations and contestants. He emphasized the significance of water skiing competitions in the club’s agenda, highlighting the global reputation that the UAE enjoys for organizing activities, events, and tournaments across various levels.
