Al Ain’s Striker Laba Kodjo Recognized Among AFC Champions League Quarter-Final Players to Watch

The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has highlighted Al Ain’s Congolese striker, Laba Kodjo, as one of the standout players anticipated by Asian football fans in the upcoming quarter-finals of the Champions League.

AFC, through its official website, confirmed Kodjo’s prominence in the continental championship, ranking third in terms of goal contributions this season. The 32-year-old striker, who joined Al Ain Club in 2019 from Morocco’s Nahdet Berkane Club, has been a key figure, scoring six goals and providing an assist for Al Ain. His notable impact includes a crucial equalizing goal against Nasaf of Uzbekistan in the round of 16, securing a 2-1 victory for Al Ain and paving the way to the quarter-finals.

The AFC’s report acknowledges Kodjo’s achievement as a two-time winner of the UAE League top scorer award and the current season’s top scorer. Despite his outstanding performance, the Al Ain Club’s medical staff has indicated that Kodjo will not be ready to participate in the quarter-final’s first leg against Al-Nassr Saudi Arabia due to incomplete recovery from injury. The club’s technical staff aims to prioritize Kodjo’s complete recovery before risking his early return.

The list of players to watch in the Champions League quarter-finals also includes renowned names such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and Sadio Mane—players with previous Champions League titles. They all seek to add the AFC Champions League title to their illustrious football careers.

The AFC report sheds light on other notable players, including Lee Dong-jun from Jeonbuk Hyundai, Sergei Milinkovic-Savic from Saudi Al-Hilal, Jo Min-kyu from Korean Ulsan Hyundai, Anderson Taliska from Saudi Al-Nassr, Valery Kazaishvili from Chinese Shandong Taishan, and Wilber from the Japanese Yokohama Marinos team.
